What is Active IQ?

The Pilates Profession now has a UK National Standard for Pilates in association with The Register for Exercise Professional, the Level 3 Pilates Matwork Diploma. Whilst this qualification is fairly robust, we believe there are some elements missing.  It is for this reason that we have built our course to cover not only the Level 3 Diploma, but also those additional elements that will help you become not just a Pilates instructor, but a professional Pilates TEACHER. Whether you are looking to train to teach Pilates mat classes (Active IQ Level 3 Mat Pilates) or the full repertoire of studio equipment (PMA Comprehensive Training+ Active IQ Level 3 Mat) we have the course that’s right for you.

We have chosen Active IQ as our awarding body as they were the awarding body for our own training.  Click on the link below to download a PDF of the full qualification guidance.

Our Level 3 Mat course meets all the requirements of the Active IQ guidelines and upon completion you will receive a certificate from Active IQ detailing your Level 3 qualification and a further certificate from Inner Power Pilates detailing your additional education.

Upon completion of the Level 3 qualification, we also have stand-alone Continuing Professional Development Courses in each piece of studio equipment for those already qualified and/or wishing to further develop their knowledge and training. Our 450+ hour comprehensive course includes the Level 3 Matwork Diploma.  Our Comprehensive students spend twelve months with us and you can be confident that all of our courses provide one of the highest levels of face to face training available.

What is REPs?

REPs is the Register of Exercise Professionals.  Upon completion of the Level 3 Diploma you will be eligible to join this register and take out their insurance cover if you wish.  This is useful if you are working for a larger gym as they will require this of you before employing you.  If you plan to work on your own or in the community however, then you do not necessarily need to join REPs.  Your qualification will enable you to gain insurance through a number of different providers.

I decided that for me it wasn’t in my interests to be registered with REPs as it doesn’t meet my requirements.  They require you to undertake a certain number of hours of CPD (continued professional development) courses every year, but these courses are mainly relevant to the fitness industry as a whole and not human movement and the other topics that I am particularly interested in.

We decided to have our Level 3 course endorsed by both Active IQ so that you had as many options open to you as possible when leaving the course.  Whether you join REPs or not is a decision for you to make once you qualify, but simply holding the Level 3 qualification without REPs registration will enable you to continue learning with many different providers, including us, and we encourage all of our learners to undertake at least one CPD course per year to continue your own education and make sure you stay up to date in your chosen field(s).
